We wouldn't call it closed to ice fishing peeps.
We would call it an enhanced staging area.
Machines will now have to use 89, which will help keep the shore in better shape at Gilford Rd for walkers.
We like it. 😃

I wouldnt say you are looking out for walkers, i would say this is being done so the ice at shore where you bring out people to huts doesnt get damaged. Dont feed us a load of bs that its to protect walkers when in fact its to line your ice hut pockets.

Other hut operators stage at Gilford Rd, not us. No lines of BS were fed here. Sorry to disappoint. You are more than welcome to walk out and fish at 2nd line, where we do our best to keep the ice heaves cut down and access in good shape for the public.

A hut operator can't operate without machines to take their huts and customers out. With only foot access the hut operators are screwed. They are not lining their pockets.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about the city didn't put the gate up "to save the ice from damage", its to stop people from ice fishing. just like the city closed half of the road parking in the last 12 years. residents hate the noise and complain to the city. also Gilford to not a boat launch so maybe the city put the gate up to prevent that too

Parking on both sides of the street and blocking driveways was a real issue. There is more than enough parking even now,you just have to walk a bit further. The boat launch is currently being upgraded with a new dock being installed as well to assist in launching. We'd say the city is trying to do its part for residents, and giving a great effort for non residents.

Dude why not tell everyone the real season , it's about money , no other reason Town can't.get you for parking , thy will get you for launching your boat Of course. Every project costs money, and plenty of it. Without discussing with council, we can only assume that above and beyond resident tax dollars, that partial funding came from the parking and boat launch fees collected. Hunting and fishing in Ontario is pretty much on a pay to play program. Just about 100% of the dollars spent on hunting and fishing conservation/enforcement comes through the sale of hunting and fishing licenses. Why would we assume that municipalities should offer services, access, and structural upgrades at no expense as well? The last two times we travelled with our boat to another body of water, we paid. Once the launch was included with our cabin rental, and the other time fees were collected by the municipality right at the dock. We were happy to pay for use of parking and dock. As residents we are more than happy to share our personal opinion on public non resident access. We would like to see more public access to Lake Simcoe. We believe the lake has plenty to offer all people and should be made available. The increased access may also help reduce the incidents of trespassing on our private property as non residents scramble to find ways on and off the lake. While we like having ice fishers around, we really don't want strangers in our back yard. Voting for Ward 7 ends tonight. We have backed Don Tata for Ward 7 councillor. Part of his vision is to reduce(not remove), parking/launching fees- and he has our full support.

Ya that's right , stick it to the man woman using the road ends , if I was running the show in Innisfil , and to keep up the image of Gilford being the ice fishing capital of the world , free parking and free launch Innisfil wide . Not quite sure we are following you? Removing asphalt and replacing with grass/tables to create a larger staging area for walkers in the winter, and water/beach access in summer-FREE to use. Upgraded launch at Shore Acres including newly constructed dock, paid for by residents and users of that launch. Also FREE Lake access for machines in the winter. Also parking along designated roads will as always be FREE. The town won't be collecting a dime off anyone unless they launch a boat, opt for the convienience of the paid parking lot, or happen to park in violation of local By Law. The hut operators off Gilford Road will again also be doing their part to maintain access for walkers, as we will at 2nd line-also FREE Apologies for the dark photos, but I figured we ought to see a couple pics of what we are talking about. Here is the new grass/walkway/trees and ditch. The ground has been raised with a full length ditch that should keep the area drier on those warm winter days. You'll note barriers going full width stopping vehicles from driving onto the grass. Also a shot of shore acres. There is now a designated pedestrian walkway leading from the paid parking lot to the boat launch. The dock is not in the water yet,but I am sure we will see it early next season.

looks like we might have to lift our stuff over the poles to walk from Gilford can a sled be between?? A large and wide sled will fit for sure. There is a larger gap left at the entrance. I didn't measure, but was surprised at the size of the gap. It looks as though an ATV could possibly fit through. Permanent ice huts will definitely not fit, so plan on using Shore Acres/89 for thouse.

Most were likely unaware that 3rd line used to run past the houses and right to the water providing lake access right at the top of Degrassi Pt. It has recently been sold off, and we are told funds were used to upgrade Gilford Rd access as well as the Shore Acres launch. Not a loss, but a gain. It was a steep drop down to the water at the end of 3rd, and I think I was the only fool daring enough to use it.

So in the summertime if you park free on the side of the road do you still have to pay to launch your boat because like you say they put a new Doc in? Ill say no you have to pay the full price to launch your boat. Not sure why when the towns thinking about a dock but they didn't pave the launch at the same time? The yellow Gates that they used to have at the end of Guilford Road that they open in the winter time is a better idea than they have now but anyways , The white line down Shore Acres Road is leading you from your paid parking to your paid boat launch area nothing more than that, again to be known as the ice fishing capital of the world you can't go nickel-and-dimed people to death . Also the third line is off the beaten path so it doesn't matter. I remember about 13 years ago I put a hut at the end of Guilford Road started this message board and doing ice reports it was just me there and my Bait Shack perhaps you remember. The idea was Supply reports people could come down here and ice fish for free and get some bait and having a good time but those days are gone pay pay pay .
