Tryin' not to go too far North. Also looking for a spot where people have done target shooting without issue.
Recently someone close by my place was shooting .22 it sounded like. Lots of farm land and bush for shooting so I thought nothing of it. Apparently some neighbors took issue and called the police. I'd rather not deal with that sort of situation.

I know there's a gun club/range just northeast of Newmarket. Not sure on the particulars and if you HAVE to be a member to shoot there, but its a shot. (Pardon the pun)
Sharon gun club if I'm not mistaken. On Kennedy rd. North of Green Lane.(Herald rd.)

You can purchase restricted firearms if you have an RPAL at anytime but need a club to discharge them at . TD ACTUALLY.......you cannot go buy a restricted firearm if all you have is your RPAL. In our governments eyes, the only reason to own one is for target practice. This is the reason that you must be a member of a gun club. Once you have full membership at a gun club, they will apply for you (to the CFO) to get an ATT (Authorization To Transport). This is the document that you need in order to take your firearm from point A to point B. These 2 points can be.... - gun store to home - home to gun range - gun smith to home (and obviously the reverse of each of these). Therefore.....going into a gun store, with your RPAL, to buy a restricted firearm would do you no good. The store could never transfer ownership of the firearm to you because they need to have proof that you can legally transport it home. You'd need an ATT to do that. Just trying to clarify this as I wouldn't want someone who has a Ristricted Possession Aquisition Licence (RPAL) to try and buy a ristricted firearm until they are a full member & in possession of an ATT. FYI....it took me almost 6 months from the time I became interested in shooting sports to owning my first restricted. Ciao for now

I know two people this winter that purchased restricteds and can only keep them at home. ATT was issued from store to their house and that's it. Kinda pointless to me though.

Members of a club can can get u a letter (usually from the chair/board/president etc) Requesting an ATT in order for you to come with that member to shoot at the club

You can also buy a firearm and say you are looking at a few clubs but want the pistol in your possession before you buy a membership. You will get an ATT to bring it home and then it will be invalid. Also, the restricted and ATT rules have changed recently.
So if your going off rules and regs from years ago, do yourself a favor and read up on the changes (no I will not post a link here, Google is your friend). And yes I have my RPAL and all the fun that goes with it.

I'd be curious to talk to the folks up at TITS. I had a membership up there a few years ago but slowed down on my trap shooting. The Pan-Am games had the pistol & rifle shooting events there as well as the shot gun stuff. Once this whole Pan-Am stuff is done, I'm gonna make a point of popping in to see what the are going to offer going forward. I'm sure they wouldn't let the newly built (using our tax dollars) facilities go to waste. I imagine the Chief Firearms Officer would have had to reclassify the location to allow pistol even if Pan-Am only shoot 22cal.
We'll see
ciao for now

Well Jimmy you are wrong as someone else stated . As soon as you have an RPAL you can buy a handgun and apply for an ATT . I don't need to be a member of a handgun club . I have never even been a member of a gun club . I've also had the permit to pack while going about my duty as a trapper . I had to take the Wilderness Handgun Safety course and need to requalify every 4 years . An RPAL lets you purchase and own a restricted firearm . Nothing on it or the documents say you are required to be a member of a club .

TrapperD is absolutely correct. Rpal means you may Purchase & own a restricted firearm. As for the ATT, I am not sure when it will start but the ATT's will soon be attatched right to your Rpal... No need to call CFO to obtain an Att. I just completed my course in Sept. 2015 & that is what they were telling us the new law is going to be. So if you have a shooting tourney & the CFO is on vacation & you can't contact him/her it won't matter anymore because it will be automatically attached to your license. as for finding a place in Innisfil to fire your .22 cal. rifle, look elsewhere north of here, you may not discharge a rifle or hunt with a rifle in Innisfil, as far as I am told.

Jimmy239 . . .
I was at the Pan-Am Games at T.I.T.S, the pistol & rifles were air guns only. . .
